The Adanague brothers created these beautiful pottery vases in Chulucanas, Peru. The
town of Chulucanas, Peru is located in northwest Peru which is a long, dusty
ride from Lima.
It is in this area that pre-Columbian vessels with a
negative smoke resist technique were found in burial sites of the Vicus
tribe. In the 60's, several Peruvian potters from the region began experimenting with
this lost technique.
Today almost the whole community of Chulucanas, Peru is engaged in pottery
making, and Chulucanas pottery has received world-wide recognition.
Each of these pottery vases is thrown or handformed, colored with mineral oxides,
and then fired and smoked. The smoking produces the beautiful brown/black
tones.
