Soapstone Carvings

These soapstone carvings come from San Juan de Limay, Nicaragua. Located in the northern mountains, miles from the nearest paved road, it has a lively artisan population. The men and women who carve these beautiful sculptures obtain the stone from a nearby quarry. The color can range from a solid white to a deep red or purple. While each artisan has his or her own style, every sculpture is one of a kind.
